Communication Technologies and Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Local Government Administration in Akwa Ibom State

Abstract
This study – Communication Technologies and Indigenous Knowledge Systems in Local Government Administration in Akwa Ibom State, aimed at ascertaining the communication technologies used in local government administration in Akwa Ibom State, find out existing indigenous knowledge systems, determine whether communication technologies are threatening the existence of indigenous knowledge systems, find out the interfaces between communication technologies and indigenous knowledge systems, and identify gaps that should be bridged between communication technologies and indigenous knowledge systems. To this end, the survey research method using the instrument of questionnaire was used to generate data from staff of local government areas in Akwa Ibom State. Findings of the study revealed that although there is the existence of skeletal use of communication technologies in the local government administration in Akwa State, indigenous knowledge systems have been in use over the years in the form of oral communication, non-verbal cues, among others. It was recommended that both systems should be effectively harnessed to bring about growth and development in the local government administration in Akwa Ibom State as well as stand at par with other administrations in civilized climes.
